Marketa Goetz-Stankiewicz on Gabriela Preissová

Friday, October 20, 11:30 am to 1 pm
Newcombe Conference Hall, Royal BC Museum

Opera is more than music and drama; it is also a platform to explore time, place and people.

University of British Columbia Professor Emerita Marketa Goetz-Stankiewicz, winner of the 2016 Jiří Theiner Award for her contributions to the dissemination and promotion of Czech literature, will transport you to the rural mill towns of 19th-century Moravia, illuminating the life and work of Czech writer Gabriela Preissová, the little-known creative force behind Leoš Janáček's opera Jenůfa.
